5Austria-Hungary (1867–1918)

Austria-Hungary was a dual monarchy that controlled much of Central Europe before World War I.

It was a powerful empire consisting of modern-day Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and parts of Romania, Croatia, and more. After its defeat in World War I, the empire broke apart, and new nations emerged from its former territories.
