7Saar Protectorate (1947–1956)

The Saar Protectorate was a small region in southwestern Germany controlled by France after World War II.

It was an important industrial area, especially for coal production. In 1955, a referendum was held, and the Saar region voted to reunite with West Germany. In 1957, the Saar Protectorate officially ceased to exist, becoming part of the Federal Republic of Germany.
