Tight Clothing

Wearing too tight clothes may seem stylish, but they can be uncomfortable, especially on a long flight.

Tight pants, shirts, or belts can restrict circulation and even increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a dangerous condition caused by blood clots. Instead, opt for loose-fitting, breathable clothes that allow you to move freely and stay comfortable throughout the flight.

High Heels

High heels might look great, but they are a poor choice for air travel. Planes involve a lot of walking, from getting to your gate to boarding and disembarking.

You’ll also want comfortable shoes if you need to move quickly during an emergency. Opt for supportive, flat shoes like sneakers or loafers that keep your feet happy throughout the flight.

Complicated Layers or Accessories

Fashionable layers or tricky accessories might make a statement, but they will become a hassle when you have to go through security.  Avoid items like bulky jewelry, belts with metal buckles, and jackets with multiple zippers or buttons. These will slow you down at the security checkpoint and make it harder to get comfortable in your seat. Stick to simple layers that you can easily remove and put back on when needed.

Heavy Perfume or Cologne

While smelling good is important, wearing strong fragrances on a plane is a big no-no. Enclosed spaces like airplane cabins trap scents, which can be overwhelming to other passengers.

Some people are even allergic to strong perfumes and colognes. To avoid causing discomfort or reactions in others, it’s best to skip the heavy fragrance and opt for a clean, natural scent.

Revealing or Inappropriate Clothing

Wearing revealing or overly casual clothing, like swimsuits, short shorts, or see-through tops, can make fellow passengers uncomfortable. Airlines may also have dress codes, and wearing inappropriate clothing could even prevent you from boarding. Opt for comfortable, modest clothing that is appropriate for shared spaces and long periods of sitting.

Uncomfortable Fabrics

Fabrics like leather, nylon, or polyester may look sleek but can become hot, sticky, and uncomfortable during a flight.

These materials don’t allow your skin to breathe, making you sweat and feel uncomfortable, especially on longer flights. Choose breathable, natural fabrics like cotton or linen that allow airflow and keep you cool.

Flip-Flops or Sandals

Flip-flops and open-toed sandals may seem convenient, but they are not ideal for flying. They offer little support, leave your feet exposed to the cold cabin air, and are unhygienic, especially when walking through airport security barefoot. If you need to take your shoes off during the flight, opt for slip-on shoes that offer more protection and are easier to put back on.
