Easter Island

Located in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, Easter Island is one of the most isolated islands inhabited by humans.

Tromelin

Situated 450 km east of Madagascar, this remote island is inaccessible due to rugged sea waves. Tromelin is facilitated with an airstrip to connect the outside world.  It’s also hosted birds and green sea turtle reserves and a facility for weather station along with scientific expeditions. Wrangell Island

Wedged between the Chukchi Sea and the East Siberian Sea, Wrangle Island is located in the Arctic Ocean, making it hardly approachable. It’s considered the last place of existence of woolly mammoths before to get extinct in 2000 BC. Click the next ARROW to see the next image!

The Kerguelen Island

Also known as “Desolation Islands”, the Kerguelen Island is situated 450 km northwest of Heard Island and McDonald Islands. They are surrounded by over 300 islands, with the majority to be covered with enormous glaciers for nearly 100 miles long and touching the length with over 6,000 feet.

Palmerston Island

Situated in the Pacific Ocean, Palmerston Island was discovered by James Cook.  It’s unreachable due to hiding reefs under the waves, and the only way to communicate with people is through a telephone station, which was recently built.

Pitcairn Island

With just 50 inhabitants, Pitcairn is one of the least populated islands in the world.  Located many miles away from the nearest land, this island is only accessible by boats. The island has been protected by UNESCO since 1988.

St. Kilda

Located 64 km west-northwest of North Uist, Atlantic Ocean, this remote island is considered one of the most dangerous islands in the world. The island is inhabited by just 180 people, who struggle to survive by hunting birds, as fishing in the unsafe waters is impossible.

St. Helena

Situated 4,000 kilometers east of Rio de Janeiro in the South Atlantic Ocean, St. Helena has 4,534 people reside on this island. British government built an airport to make the island more self-sufficient, and today it attracts over 30,000 visitors across the globe annually.

Tristan da Cunha

With the closest inhabited land to Tristan da Cunha to be at 2,400 kilometers, Tristan da Cunha is the only inhabited island, located in the South Atlantic Ocean. The remote island is only reachable by boat or ship.

Bouvet

Regarded as the remotest uninhabited island, Bouvet Island is located 2,600 km off the coast of South Africa. It was discovered by a Frenchman named Jean-Baptiste Charles Bouvet de Lozier in 1739. The entire district has been considered a natural reserve since 1971.
