2Civil Protection Deployed to Several Towns in Naples

The earthquake swarm, which began to intensify at 4:53 p.m. local time (3:53 UTC) on Saturday, February 15th, started at the volatile and unpredictable Campi Flegrei volcanic caldera, Europe’s supervolcano.
Over 230 earthquakes were recorded by Saturday evening in and around the area of the Campi Flegrei supervolcano, prompting officials to deploy the National Civil Protection Department to the area to bring emergency supplies to residents in need, and aid in evacuations when mandated.
