The recent volcanic-earthquake swarm in the region of Naples has caused panic among residents amid the week-long eruption of Mount Etna in Sicily, and the mega-volcanic-earthquake swarm that has bombarded the Greek islands since late January.
Both Italy and Greece sit upon the Eurasian and African tectonic plates, prompting more fear among residents in both European countries that a major volcanic eruption in one or both countries is imminent in the very near future.
As of this publication, the Campi Flegrei supervolcano area has recorded 658 earthquakes since Saturday.Should the seismic activity continue and intensify, a full-scale bradyseismic crisis alert will be initiated; one that has not occurred since the 80s, according to the National Civil Protection Department.
