7VAL DI NOTO: RISEN FROM THE RUINS

In 2002 UNESCO inscribed the eight towns of Val di Noto (Caltagirone, Catania, Modica, Noto, Palazzolo, Ragusa, and Scicli)on the World Heritage list.

The towns, constructed after a 1693 earthquake devastated the area, are treasured for their splendid late baroque-style architecture and innovative city planning.
